Gift wrappers 2016

During the month of December, over 250 volunteers participate in our annual gift wrap fundraiser to help raise funds for StepStones programming at Vaughan Mills Shopping Centre. The funds raised in the gift wrap fundraiser will contribute to our mission in supporting economically disadvantaged children and youth who experienced trauma, abuse and unstable guardian care through StepStones 2 major programs: StepStones’ Summer Camp and the Youth in Transition Mentoring Program.

The gift wrap fundraiser is our largest fundraiser of the year and StepStones needs your help to help make this event possible. Register as an individual volunteer through our registration portal at: https://www.kindnessconnect.com/StepStones/giftwrap17/ . If you are registering as a group of 8-10, please email Maggie at getinvolved@stepstonesforyouth.com with the name and contact information of the group leader and the group's availability.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make an impact in your community! This is also a great way to have fun, meet new people and support a good cause.

Mission Statement

StepStones for Youth ("StepStones") is a registered charitable organization whose mission is to provide support for disadvantaged children and youth who have experienced trauma, abuse and unstable guardian care, with minimum to no support in their lives. To create long-term change, we support youth in educational achievement, securing employment, finding stable housing and building lasting support networks.

Description

Our principle aim at StepStones for Youth is to prevent youth who are ageing out of the child welfare system from dropping out of school, and becoming homeless and impoverished. We believe that if preventative measures are taken to support these youth then we can foster stability and independence for them that will drastically reduce their dependence on corrective social services in adulthood, and consequently disrupt the cycle of poverty. StepStones’ programs demonstrate that these outcomes are possible when youth feel connected, empowered, and supported.

StepStones’ programs are designed to encourage skill development, promote educational attainment, increase youths’ employability, and reduce the likelihood of homelessness. To achieve these outcomes we offer a range of programs including the Youth in Transition Housing Program, the Youth in Transition Education and Mentoring Program, and the Summer Camp and Leadership Program. Collectively, our programs help youth to foster their inherent strengths and build their capacity to take charge of their own lives. Using this approach we have witnessed firsthand positive changes in youths’ physical, social, and emotional development that in turn promotes their self-esteem, self-advocacy, and overall self-sufficiency.
