Lydia's House of Cincinnati, Ohio is currently looking for a female community advocate to live in our main property and support homeless pregnant women and single mother families as they work to establish stability and grow in wholeness. The term of service is a minimum of one year (with possible extension) and applications are being accepted for a February 2019 start

The ideal candidate has:

  • Experience with social service or case management combined with a desire to be more relational and less professional
  • Experience with community building through work as a camp counselor, a RA or youth/ campus ministry
  • Skills in cooking, organizing, sewing, baking, art or gardening
  • An openness to child birth accompaniment or doula work
  • Experience with spiritual direction or counseling and knowledge of Ignatian Spirituality
  • Capacity to multi-task, balancing administrative and computer work with home tasks
  • A commitment to doing things well, trying new ways of being and doing, and being held accountable in community

Compensation:

  • monthly stipend of $500
  • all food, housing, and transportation
  • a generous self-care allowance including counseling and retreats
  • access to classes at nearby Xavier University


Lydia’s House distinguishes itself from traditional homeless shelters by its commitment to providing a rich community life of sharing dinners daily, recreational outings, and friendship, for current and previous guests. Lydia’s House is a home of hospitality in the Catholic Worker tradition.
