Help our program staff spread holiday cheer and serve Christmas meals to seniors at our Gaylord White Senior Center! We're looking for volunteers who are outgoing, friendly, and ready to pitch in to provide meals to those who may not have any other place to go for the holiday. Volunteers will help set up for the holiday meal service beginning at 9am, serve meals and chat with seniors, and then help wrap up by 2pm.
Interested individuals or groups should email Jeanette Iturbides -Volunteer Coordinator at jiturbides@unionsettlement.org with the subject line "Christmas Meal Service Volunteer". Volunteers must be able to stay from 9am to 2pm.

Mission Statement
Union Settlement is an on-the-ground resource for East Harlem residents of all ages, and a passionate advocate for the needs of underserved communities. Since opening our doors in 1895, we have brought education, wellness and community-building programs to our neighborhood, empowering New Yorkers with opportunities to better their lives. By helping our neighbors realize their goals, we build the vitality and success of East Harlem.
Description
Founded more than a century ago, the Settlement has built a strong tradition of responsiveness to community need - developing child health stations early in the century, advocating for equal opportunity in sanitation, public housing and education from its inception. During the Great Depression, the Settlement provided food and employment and hope to many destitute families, preparing them for a better future. The Settlement has grown to become one of the largest human service agencies in East Harlem, serving more than 12,000 individuals on a daily basis out of 16 community locations with essential services including child care, mental health, education, care for the elderly, HIV/Aids services, adult education and much more.
