Crayon Collection

Do you care about reducing waste in landfills? Do you want to help children in need? If your answers to both are yes, then please consider volunteering at Crayon Collection. Crayon Collection is a charity that collects gently used crayons and distributes them to Title 1 schools. By collecting crayons, we reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills since crayons do not decompose.

We are seeking Crayon Ambassadors to help elevate our program by volunteering 2-5 hours/week.

Duties include: 1. Calling restaurants in your community to inform them about our Crayon Recycling program and asking them to participate. 2. Pairing each restaurant with a local Title 1 school and coordinating the pick up of the crayons. 3. Sharing results with Program Manager for record-keeping

Requirements:
- No prior volunteer experience required
- Likely need to drive to pick up and drop off crayon donations, requiring a driver's license and access to a vehicle
- Ability to lift ~5-10 lbs

We currently have the most need for crayon ambassadors in the Santa Monica area, however we are growing nationally and accepting volunteers from anywhere within the US!

If you are interested, please send an email to info@crayoncollection.org. Thank you for your consideration!

Mission Statement

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: to collect as many crayons as possible and donate them to kids in need. Billions of crayons are produced in the U.S. each year, and much of that ends up in our landfills. These petroleum-derived crayons can take years - even decades- to decompose. Meanwhile, U.S. teachers in underfunded public schools are spending an average of $750 of their own income per year on supplies for their classrooms.

Description

Our solution - pairing participating Crayon Collection restaurant chains, such as California Pizza Kitchen and Islands Restaurants, with local high-poverty Title1 schools. These recipient schools pick up the restaurants' gently-used crayons every month to augment the supplies they need in their classrooms. Preschools and elementary schools throughout the country also hold crayon drives and donate to nearby schools in need, which teaches invaluable lessons to our youth about eco-mindedness.
