ORGANIZATION: Kansas City Public Library

Kansas City Public Library

Citizenship Mentors will work one-to-one with patrons who are applying for US Citizenship, focusing primarily on the eligibility interview itself. Mentors will help students become more comfortable and confident with English conversational literacy through mock naturalization interviews. Mentors will connect with each student personally and encourage them in their journey to naturalized citizenship. Above all, this is an exciting role sure to provide you with an overall enriching experience as you get to know a culturally diverse group of individuals and build community by learning together here at the Kansas City Public Library.

Citizenship Mentors should be familiar with the USCIS Citizenship Curriculum and able to assist students with the questions. But your primary focus will be patiently and enthusiastically "interviewing" students to hone their English comprehension and conversational skills. Mentors will also get students excited about citizenship and help them understand the importance of being an active, informed community member. We want our students to feel confident and ready to become a citizen of this country. You will have the opportunity to build community and forge relationships with our students outside of the traditional classroom.
