Mission Statement
Sitters For Scholars is a non-profit that offers free babysitting services for parents of low-income families that are returning to college.
Description
Sitters For Scholars, (previously Sitters Without Borders) is a first of it’s kind non-profit organization which offers free babysitting sessions to low-income families in which at least one parent is attending college. Sitters For Scholars provides support throughout Metro Boston with the help of local volunteers who believe that it takes a village to raise a child, while encouraging parents to pursue a higher education.
The sitters volunteering with Sitters For Scholars are frequently enthusiastic college students themselves who understand the amount of time and work that goes into succeeding in college, and value the importance of child care service to parents in school. These volunteers are carefully selected based on their experience with children, dedication to volunteer work and professional credentials. They are thoroughly interviewed, trained, CPR and First Aid trained. They are also reviewed for a clean background check and great references. Each sitter has a profile which is available for parents to view upon confirming a sitter for their family.
The families selected to receive babysitting services are also carefully verified to match our target group. In addition to meeting the basic eligibility requirements for babysitting services, families are interviewed in person and have their homes checked for safety requirements before a sitter comes to their house. If interested, please apply directly on website (https://www.sittersforscholars.org/volunteer)and someone will contact you!
