Pulling broom in Hillside Natural Area

During the annual Hillside Festival, join local Boy Scouts and Friends of Five Creeks volunteers in a family-friendly, all-ages work party removing invasive, fire-prone French broom from the beautiful El Cerrito Hillside Natural Area. Enjoy a beautiful walk and work with sweeping Bay views, and help make the community safer while improving habitat for wildlife.

Tools, gloves, snacks, and good company supplied. Please bring a re-usable water bottle. Wear long pants, long sleeves, socks, and closed-toed shoes with good traction. Dress in layers, with sun protection, to be prepared for changing weather. Very young children or those who are very sensitive to poison oak can instead dig fennel in grassy meadows.

Meet at the service-road gate at the west, downhill end of King Court (1190 King Court on Internet maps). From where King and Shevlin meet, north of Moeser and downhill from Arlington, head downhill on one-block King Court. Map including walking route from AC Transit 7 is at https://drive.google.com/open?id=1hh4cfLLYMM1jYWFRVtCoaUQKBBw&usp=sharing.

Mission Statement

Friends of Five Creeks is an all-volunteer organization founded in 1996, working hands-on to protect and restore creeks, watersheds, and nature in Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, and south Richmond, on the east shore of San Francisco Bay.

Description

Besides frequent volunteer events, for the general public and for school, religious, business, or other groups, we lead walks, host free Bay Currents talks on nature and environment, publish a monthly e-newsletter on Bay Area environmental news, and advocate for political action on creek and watershed issues.
