Immigrant Yarn Project.
Just a teeny tiny fraction of the gorgeous contributions. We take the pieces and arrange and sew them into panels for display.

The Immigrant Yarn Project is a massive public and democratic art project that tells the story of our immigrant past and future. It will be made up of thousands of small squares each representing a personal or family story. You can help in three fun ways:

1. Knit or crochet a square or patch or, really anything! send it to us for inclusion on the Yarn Project

2. We are receiving squares every day, and we need people to sew them together into long strips, 3' x 11'. It's fun, social, creative and for a great cause. You can see more about the project at www.enactivist.com.

3. We are also looking for a person/persons to help with our social media. This can be done from anywhere, so give us a holler, we'd love your help.

Location:

Mission Statement

We are a group of activists joining forces, talents, energy, and resources to sponsor events and exhibitions that shine a light on vulnerable people, institutions and causes. Whether it is through our salon-style speaker series or colossal public art projects, we believe that ongoing, in-person opportunities to learn, network and support the progressive agenda in creative inspiring ways will keep people engaged to ENACT change. Enactivist was founded by Cindy Weil in San Francisco, CA.

Description

Please join thousands of artist / knitter / activists from around the country collaborating in a single, magnificent gesture of unity, solidarity, and yarn-based graffiti activism - honoring our immigrant history. The power and irresistibility of women knitting have been well demonstrated this year. Like the fabulous and iconic Pussy Hat, the Immigrant Yarn Project is a purely democratic and colossal work of public art, representing a cross section of the American experience and available and accessible to everyone - for free.
