Join us as we host fun events for the whole family to grow together through art projects. Every month Beacon hosts a different art project and welcomes anywhere from 30-150 people into our space to make art together and build relationships while doing it. We're looking for folks to join us before and/or during these events to ensure that every participant is able to express themselves creatively, get to know their neighbors and feel at home at Beacon. These volunteers would help with anything from set up to break down to helping people complete the project during the event. A heart for hospitality and an enthusiastic spirit is what matters most. Dates/times vary, and commitments can be as frequent as you like.
Upcoming events and projects include:
November 8, 6:00-7:30pm: Thanksgiving-themed art project
December 2, 1:00-4:00pm: Gingerbread Houses
January 10, 6:00-7:30pm: "Catching Snowflakes" Oil Pastel project
February 7, 6:00-7:30pm: Mask-making

Mission Statement

Beacon is a neighborhood faith community located in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia that strengthens its local community, its children and neighbors, through faith, art, and storytelling.

Description

Beacon Church is a neighborhood faith community that has offered secular (non-religious) creative programming for children since the beginning. We encourage and empower young people to discover and strengthen their innate voice through creative writing, storytelling, and visual arts. We are partnering with Hackett Elementry School to bring our creative writing program, called Story Studio, to life on campus. We join Hackett students K-5th grade in the library on weekly basis to write, read, listen, play, and build relationships.
