Help us bring Tacoma’s birthplace to life through interactive learning for elementary students and our community. Musical performers showcase songs that interpret life on the Oregon Trail and in Puget Sound during the mid-1800s.

Job Carr Cabin Museum hosts over 40 school groups each year. We rely on musical performers to engage elementary school children in learning about frontier life. Musicians may choose to incorporate singing, storytelling, circle dancing, square dancing and/or folk dance. Museum staff can assist with research and reference materials. Other performers have used guitar, ukulele, mandolin, dulcimer, fiddle, harmonica and/or drums.

School field trip presentations are generally scheduled on weekday mornings. Special events are usually scheduled during afternoons, evenings and weekends. Performance times vary from 15min to 2hrs. Multiple opportunities are available.

We welcome volunteers of all ages, interests and skill levels. Volunteers with experience in music, theater, education, teaching, history, and storytelling are strongly encouraged to apply. Stipends may be available. All volunteers must complete a volunteer application form and successfully pass a security background check.
