AmeriCorps Builds Lives through Education (ABLE) is an education focused National Service program. ABLE collaborates with schools that share our mission of increasing the academic success of students in Buffalo, NY. ABLE mobilizes individuals in national service to revive and strengthen educational environments, expanding opportunities for today’s youth and transforming America’s future-one student, one classroom, and one community at a time.
The ABLE program has partnered with The Salvation Army in Lockport. The ABLE member will work daily with students in grades 4-8 through the after-school program. They will be responsible on implement the Positive Action (social/emotional) intervention. In addition to this, members will serve as tutors and mentors to the students.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Demonstrated experience working with urban youth * Organizational skills * Ability to communicate effectively with students, parent, teachers, staff, and administrators * Willingness to learn new skills and intervention techniques * All education backgrounds encouraged to apply
Required Qualifications: * Experience working with urban youth, preferably in a tutoring or academic support capacity * Must be a U.S. Citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien * Able to provide the following documentation: birth certification, driver’s license or state photo ID, social security card, and high school diploma or college degree * Must undergo a criminal history check *REQUIRED*
