We are in need of volunteers to help with set-up, registration, and miscellaneous things at the Foundation for Letters' (FFL) 6th Annual Fall Gala. The Gala starts at 6pm and ends at 9:30pm and will be held in the beautiful lobby of the Frank Gehry-designed IAC building (555 West 18th Street, at the West Side Highway).
FFL is a New York City-based non-profit that designs and delivers innovative, writing-intensive programs to high school students in underserved communities.
We need volunteers during one or more of these shifts: 5-7pm, 6-8pm, 7-9pm, and/or 8-10pm.
The theme of this year's gala is Imagination Unleashed. It will celebrate popular young adult literature that appeals to youth and adults alike, as well as the writers behind it. The gala supports free access for students to a range of FFL programs, along with instruction and feedback on their work from journalists, published authors, editors, and publishers.
We had 400 people in attendance last year and honored Vivica Fox, among others, and expect a similar turnout this year as we honor young adult authors, local educators, and student writers.
If you are interested in supporting the work of an organization that seeks to improve urban education and are willing and able to help with set-up of tables and materials, as well as registration of guests at the door, please contact us! The event will be fun and all volunteers can enjoy free food!

The Foundation for Letters promotes improved college access through engagement with writing by providing urban schools with a range of literary-focused academic and enrichment programs. Description
OUR FOCUS
Promoting Writing Engagement
Environments that emphasize the value of the written word help provide students with a path to improved literacy. FFL fosters these environments by supporting a variety of writing programs, ranging from poetry to fiction, essays, journalism as well as spoken word and other genres.
Increasing College Readiness
Increased fluency with the word bears a close connection to success in high school, college, and beyond. FFL supports programs that introduce students at an early age to the critical importance of a college education. These programs help provide a path to attending and succeeding in college, and help better position urban students for educational and professional success.
Improving Global Citizenship
Students in underserved urban neighborhoods who are consistently exposed to the world beyond their present circumstances develop a thirst for further education and intellectual engagement that makes pursuing a college education attractive. FFL supports programs that use engagement with writing as a tool for improved global understanding. These programs are also designed to give the students a sense of belonging in today’s global community.
