The Seattle Office of Emergency Management partners with the community to prepare for, respond to, mitigate the impacts of, and recover from disasters.
Therefore, we are partnering with Seattle Parks & Recreation Emergency Management Coordinator to recruit a motivated and savvy volunteer to create maps and help design all priority sheltering sites on Parks properties. This position will map and design floor plans that will be used to guide sheltering manager on how to properly setup shelter after a catastrophic disaster. This position requires an understanding of sheltering requirements. Candidates must have working knowledge of spatial design, utilizing Design IT programs and/or other relevant experience.
This position is a great fit for adult students and/or professional architects, urban planners, interior or spatial designers, and for Capstone projects.
An understanding of emergency management and/or emergency sheltering is a plus. Start date is ASAP! Work must be completed by August 2018.
Opportunity open to volunteers 18+ years of age.

Description
Seattle is subject to a variety of hazards ... severe weather, earthquakes, pandemics, large planned events which pose security concerns, etc. The Seattle Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is responsible for developing plans, partnerships, training and exercises to minimize the danger and damage to our community caused by those hazards. OEM does this in partnership with the our community, working with community members, community-based organizations, schools, hospitals, faith-based groups, and many others in preparing themselves. The Seattle Office of Emergency Management partners with other City departments, County, State and Federal governments as well as the business community to recover from the aftermath of disasters.
