Volunteers are needed to lead two ESL(English as a Second Language) groups for adult students who would like to come to class to learn English but are not quite ready for class. Most students at this level tend to be shy and need a welcoming group to get acclimated to the school setting and strengthen their basic communication skills. Tutors will provide practice with everyday conversation, reading, writing and numeracy skills in real life scenarios in a group of up to 6 students. Participants also have access to a computer based English language program. Tutors must have a four year degree, however training and ongoing support will be provided. Curriculum resources can be provided, but tutors have the freedom to plan their own lessons and decide on their personal style of teaching. Tutors will commit to about 4 hours per week and may establish the days and times the group will meet. This is a fascinating opportunity for anyone who would like to meet people from diverse backgrounds, gain teaching experience or simply welcome refugees and immigrants to our city!
