Lights On Afterschool
Lights On is a National Event Day to bring the awareness of the importance of having After-school Programs
The Westwood 21st CCLC sites will be coming together to host an Open House from 3:00-6:00 pm for families and students in the after-school programs. There will be several STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities for the families to participate in. There will be a meal along with popcorn and face painting.
The event will take place at Tomlinson Middle School (25912 Annapolis Inkster, MI 48141) in the Gym on Thursday October 26 from 3:00-6:00 pm.
Volunteer Duties Include:
- Popping popcorn and handing it out.
- Face painting
- Helping cook and serve meals
- Setting up activities
- Cleaning up after the event
- Working with a staff member to assist students and parents to complete STEAM activity
- Handing out information to families
- Assisting with the registration table

Wayne Metro Community Action Agency (Wayne Metro) provides services to help people achieve their goals for Healthy Homes, Upward Mobility, and Family Success. Key to this work is our focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to ensure our staff and systems our accessible and welcoming to all people.

Upward Mobility
- 4,153 participants increase their financial capabilities through workshops, coaching
- 2,021 participants receive free tax preparation
Family Success
- 794 children improve their Kindergarten readiness through early childhood education
- 610 youth improve academic progress through youth empowerment programs
Healthy Homes
- 873 households who are at-rick of homelessness maintain housing
- 2,701 households improve home energy efficiency through home repairs
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- 15 small Detroit-based organizations assisted with the Detroit Residents First Fund that works to elevate the voices of local Detroiters
Over the last four decades, the Agency’s budget has grown from $100,000 to over $100 million while continuing to maintain a low administrative rate (8%) that allows $.92 of every funded or donated dollar to be utilized for direct client services.
