NeighborLink Indianapolis is a small nonprofit that is focussed on helping low income seniors and homeowners with disabilities, remain safely in their own homes with a measure of dignity. We do that by providing free home repairs for seniors without resources. We need your help directing a small group of volunteers who move stuff for us. We need to get ladders, building materials, and other stuff to worksites (senior's homes) for projects, and we need to get stuff hauled away (branches, trash, etc.) for group projects on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have a small pool of drivers who pull NeighborLink's trailer but we need somebody to run the operation and keep it organized.

Our Service Managers running the project work would contact you and tell you what needs to move from where to where, and the schedule, and you would figure out who to call to help and how to get it done. We try to schedule out one month in advance so you can anticipate. You are free to do some of the hauling yourself, or just call the volunteers to do it. You will have a budget and you'll work with Tom, our Operations Director (nice guy!) We really need the help. If you can handle this please contact us - Tom at 317-286-2740 or thawkins499@gmail.com, and we'd be happy to discuss possibilities. We do good things for desperate people and we need good people to help us keep that up. Call us!

About NeighborLink Indianapolis

Location:

3421 N. Park Ave., INDIANAPOLIS, IN 46205, US

Mission Statement

NeighborLink Indianapolis mission is to help older adults and individuals with disabilities who own their own homes age in place safely and with dignity. We do this by providing home repair at no cost to the homeowner.

Description

We focus on home repairs that enable the homeowner to age in place safely, stabilize the home for years to come, and provide an improved appearance for the neighborhood at large. Many of the repairs we provide would be able to be done by the homeowner if they had the means or physical ability. By using volunteers we are able to help the homeowner as well as provide that intimate experience of truly being the hands and able-body for someone else.

Most older adults want to age in the most affordable home-the one they own. Aging in place allows older adults some level of autonomy and dignity over their own health and decisions. It allows many to remain within communities they’ve been a part of for decades. Social determinants of health, particularly including the ability to keep their home safe and accommodating to their physical needs, are among some of the most challenging barriers to aging in place.
