NeighborLink Indianapolis is a nonprofit that provides free home repairs to senior homeowners and homeowners with disabilities. We provide repairs in 11 different service categories but need a volunteer who understands gutters and downspouts. This volunteer would use that knowledge to work in a pool of volunteers and paid resources to provide repair of gutters in older, poorly maintained homes. The clients call NeighborLInk, we determine their eligibility and send you to help. NeighborLink pays for materials.

Activities would include assessing repair requests from people in need, determining what repairs should be done, determining what, how and when to fix the problem. You assure that work gets done, clients are satisfied, and all necessary reporting is done. You will work with direction from NeighborLink's professional services director (a nice guy!). The current volume of work is about 25 small repair projects per year - typically falling gutters and inadequate drainage.

Objective: Allow homeowners to remain safely in their own homes by maintaining the habitibility of their houses. You do that by directing our gutter repair services. If you can handle this, please call us and discuss. We've found this is ideal work for recent retirees who want to give back. Dave at 317-286-2740 has all the details and wants your help! You can email dave@nlindy.org.

About NeighborLink Indianapolis

Location:

Mission Statement

NeighborLink Indianapolis mission is to help older adults and individuals with disabilities who own their own homes age in place safely and with dignity. We do this by providing home repair at no cost to the homeowner.

Description

We focus on home repairs that enable the homeowner to age in place safely, stabilize the home for years to come, and provide an improved appearance for the neighborhood at large. Many of the repairs we provide would be able to be done by the homeowner if they had the means or physical ability. By using volunteers we are able to help the homeowner as well as provide that intimate experience of truly being the hands and able-body for someone else.

Most older adults want to age in the most affordable home-the one they own. Aging in place allows older adults some level of autonomy and dignity over their own health and decisions. It allows many to remain within communities they’ve been a part of for decades. Social determinants of health, particularly including the ability to keep their home safe and accommodating to their physical needs, are among some of the most challenging barriers to aging in place.
