San Pedro River volunteer work Week with The Nature Conservancy

January 28 to February 3, 2018

Jan. 28 - Feb. 3, 2018, The Nature Conservancy is holding a volunteer work week on the lower San Pedro River. This will be a camping/base camp trip. We will be staying on the Duell Ranch just south of Benson, AZ. This is a Conservancy property on the river. There is a small kitchen there and the trip has a volunteer cook for the trip but we all will help where we can and we will have access to the house for showering each day.

The work can include, clearing out and removing old buildings, removing fences, clearing places to put up new fences to keep cattle out of the river bottom and clearing brush back along fire breaks - we are bound to do some more of those types of things or something new.

If this sounds like something you would like to do with other volunteers, contact the Conservancy leader, Charlie Schulz via email at crs1944jr@gmail.com or call him at 602-319-4196. For questions you can also contact Dorothy Boone, dboone@tnc.org, 520-547-3437.

About the river:

The San Pedro is the last free flowing river in the southwest. It rises in Mexico and flows north to the small town of Winkelman, AZ where it joins the Gila River which, in turn, flows into the Colorado River near Yuma, AZ. It is a critical environment for migrating bird species and other wildlife that live along this 140-mile-long river.
