Sunrise Marshals
Volunteers ready for a great day in Kapalua!

There are various fields that perspective volunteers can be grouped including On-Course Marshal, SHOTLINK-Laser Operator, SHOTLINK-Walking Scorer, Admissions and Information, On-Road Transportation and On-Course Transportation. Currently, volunteers are needed mainly as Marshals and On-Road Transportation. REGISTER HERE

On-Course Marshal

Provide crowd control on the tees, fairways and greens during play. Volunteers are assigned to a specific hole (1-18) or area. Establish and maintain "quiet," to provide an environment conducive to professional golf. Marshals will perform ball-spotting duties to facilitate play. Marshals will also assist in crowd control around the first tee area, practice range, clubhouse, and crosswalks.

SHOTLINK - LASER OPERATOR

Assignments will be on the fairways and the greens using a laser-measuring device. Volunteers will take measurements of each shot to locate the golfer’s ball. Greenside operators require good eyesight, agility and must be comfortable working from a platform 6 - 10 feet above the ground. Duty periods include all tournaments days (Wednesday - Sunday), as well as a two hour classroom training session, January 2, 2018.

SHOTLINK - Walking Scorer

The role of the walking scorer is to walk with a group and keep their score along with specific statistics for both the Wednesday Pro-Am and the four days of the tournament proper. Walking scorers must have a solid understanding of the game of golf to be considered. Scorers are issued equipment prior to their round which includes a hand-held device to enter the scores and statistical information for each hole and a voice radio that enables constant communication with the PGA TOUR / ShotLink staff. Walking Scorers must be in good physical shape and cable of walking the extremely tough Kapalua Plantation course without a break. Due to the limited number of volunteers needed for this job, this is open only to past ShotLink volunteers. Any new volunteers wishing to be a Walking Scorer must first volunteer with the Laser Operators committee, unless an exception is granted. It is possible for first time volunteers to work as a Walking Scorer for the Pro-Am and then as a Laser Operator for the four tournament competition days.

There is a mandatory training session on Tuesday, January 2nd prior to the tournament. On-site support will be provided by PGA TOUR / ShotLink staff.

Admissions/Information

Sales and collection of tickets at entrance areas. Distribute spectator guides and pairing sheets. Welcome spectators and provide them with event information. Staff information booth and have responsibility for checking-in any unauthorized items (i.e. cameras, over-sized bags, etc.).

On-Road Transportation

Operate minivans to provide transportation for professional golfers, volunteers, and spectators during the tournament in the Kapalua Resort. Must be 25 years old with a valid driver’s license and clear driving record.

On-Course Transportation

Operate minivans or golf carts to provide transportation for professional golfers and tournament volunteers to and from designated locations on the golf course on tournament days. Must be 25 years old with a valid driver’s license and clear driving record.

Professional Transportation

Drive minivans to and from the airport in Kahului to transport professional golfers and their families. Assignments occur during the week prior to the start of the tournament and immediately after the tournament conclusion. A clear driving record and background are mandatory. All Drivers will be cleared by the PGA and pre-approved for these volunteer positions. It is important for each Driver to exhibit a professional and congenial demeanor, while also maintaining a focus on the task of safe and efficient transportation of the Pro Golfer and his family. Drivers must be available for flexible scheduling. Drivers are scheduled for full day shifts (on call for days scheduled). A full day shift may include one or two airport runs per assigned driver. Due to flight changes and information gaps, we do not always have 24 hours notice. Drivers are notified of assignments by text or phone call. Each driver is required to carry a cell phone for exigent communications. Non-driving Airport Greeter volunteers are also needed during the week prior to the tournament. Please specify Airport Greeter in the comment section of the volunteer form.

If you choose to volunteer for Professional Transportation, please also select a second option. The Professional Transportation Committee is a small, specialized group that tends to fill rapidly. Due to Professional Transportation driver assignments occurring prior to and after the tournament, these volunteers can also choose to volunteer on other committees during the tournament or attend the tournament as a spectator.

The event offers a variety of opportunities to get involved and up close with some of the game’s biggest stars that have qualified for the event, such as defending champion and FEDEX Cup Winner Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama.

Volunteers are an integral part of the Sentry Tournament of Champions and make it possible to conduct a world-class tournament. The event has served as one of the premier marketing vehicles for the state, showcasing the beauty of our islands via 60+ hours of television programming throughout the world to millions of viewers. It also provides a significant economic impact, and equally important, a charitable impact for Maui’s worthy non-profits.
