The North Shore Daffodil Dash will take place on Sunday, 29 April, 2018

The Canadian Cancer Society is currently seeking outgoing and confident Sponsorship Development Committee Members for the 2018 Daffodil Dash Committee.

Helping with the outreach to the local community, the sponsorship team will manage existing relationships with our generous supporters as well as look to create new one with organizations that will enhance the event and the profile of the Canadian Cancer Society in the area.

Taking on this exciting role excellent way to not only get involved and support the work of the Canadian Cancer Society, but have an opportunity to further develop your own professional network and enhance your event planning, communication and engagement skills, and organizational skills.

We are looking for exciting event ideas, an excellent background in corporate outreach, community engagement, and a passion for supporting the work being done at the Canadian Cancer Society.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Add to and maintain a list of sponsors and supports and work to enhance the relationships where possible
  • Help in creating a list of items and types of support required to ensure the event’s success
  • Attend meetings with sponsors in person or over the phone as required
  • Connect regularly with the sponsorship team to provide updates confirmed support
  • Work with committee members to ensure pre-event and event day sponsorship requirements are met
  • Develop clear goals for yourself and communicate progress on an ongoing basis
  • Participate in Volunteer Orientation and Project Debrief

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Success in community outreach - especially in requesting sponsorship
  • Experience in volunteerism, personal or professional fundraising, sales, and/or communications, and event execution
  • Project management skills with ability to anticipate problems and develop appropriate solutions
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills including the confidence to provide feedback and guidance

Volunteers must be at least 19 years of age for this position due to the scope of the role and responsibilities.

TRAINING & SUPPORT

  • Volunteer Handbook: provided by the Volunteer Engagement team
  • Role-specific training: with the addition of online resources available for review
  • Regular meetings with the Staff Partner and experienced Committee Leads

COMMITMENT

  • 1-3 hours/week with a higher level of commitment from February to April
  • Regular attendance at monthly committee meetings
  • Attendance at local community events is necessary as well as participation in set-up, logistics and take-down of the event
  • Ability to respond to emails/requests within a reasonable timeframe (12 - 24 hours)

The Canadian Cancer Society was officially formed in 1938, but the seeds for the Society were planted back in 1929 when the Saskatchewan Medical Association formed the country’s first cancer committee.

Today, the Society is the largest national charitable funder of cancer research in Canada. The Society makes more impact, against more cancers, in more communities, than any other cancer charity in Canada.
