Every year, Ben and Jerry's thanks its customers by offering Free Cone Day on the second Tuesday in April. The Houston shop partners with a nonprofit to scoop the ice cream and, in exchange, be able to raise awareness and accept donations from participants. We get to tell the Houston community that it IS possible to end hunger and poverty in our lifetime and enjoy delicious, ethically sourced and fairly made ice cream at the same time. But we need help! Whether you can give one hour or 5, we need you to help us make a difference by giving of your time. You can bring a friend and make it even more fun!

Description
We empower families to turn hunger and poverty into hope and prosperity - but our approach is more than just giving them a handout. Heifer links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas with a long history of poverty. Our animals provide partners with both food and reliable income, as agricultural products such as milk, eggs and honey can be traded or sold at market. We operate under 12 cornerstones including passing on the gift, promoting gender equality, sustainability, nutrition, and more.
The goal of every Heifer project is to help families achieve self-reliance. We do this by providing them the tools they need to sustain themselves, and it's thanks to the generosity of donors. Heifer in Houston exists to engage the community in a variety of ways - in learning about poverty, in becoming donors, in educating youth and a variety of other ways.
