Bug-A-Boo is Butterfly Pavilion's safe, fun, indoor Trick-or-Treating event held from 9 am to 8 pm, October 22-23, and October 29-30. Butterfly Pavilion has been serving the community for over 25 years, and Bug-A-Boo has become a Halloween tradition, especially for families with toddlers as well as underserved communities. The facility is easily walked by kids of all ages, and Butterfly Pavilion's animals are the perfect way to incorporate some learning around Trick-or-Treating.
The primary volunteer role at Bug-A-Boo is handing out candy. Last year, we developed a candy delivery system that allows social distancing while still providing human interaction (and maybe a few invertebrate facts!). It's super fun to see all the costumes, and the kids light up when candy comes out of a tube disguised as a butterfly proboscis or spider arm! For those looking for a less public role, we also need volunteers to put non-candy items in goodie bags prior to the event. Any way you look at it, there's a fun way to give back to your community this Halloween at Butterfly Pavilion!
Individual volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years of age. Children 9-13 may volunteer for Bug-a-Boo WITH A PARENT OR GUARDIAN. All Butterfly Pavilion episodic volunteers will be asked to sign a waiver confirming that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19, in alignment with our newly adopted Vaccination Policy. We also currently require facemasks for all team members (including volunteers) within our facility. Interested volunteers should please reach out to Volunteering@butterflies.org with any questions or for next steps for getting involved! Interested service groups can also fill out this application.
