"I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County has recently reopened our application for volunteer mentors! Adult volunteer mentors are needed to provide 2nd through 11th grade low income students with long-term, reliable, and supportive relationships, to offer one-on-one guidance and support, and to serve as positive role models! Timing is very flexible; meet with your mentee twice per month for a minimum of one year commitment. Mentors should provide a safe, meaningful, and trustful relationship with their mentee. Training is provided.
Mentors needed in: Boulder, Lafayette, Longmont and Frederick!
Objectives and Responsibilities of Mentors:
- To work at least one year with your Dreamer.
- To contact and meet with your Dreamer on a regular basis. This means a minimum of two visits per month. During the times that you are not available to meet with your Dreamer, we ask that you check in via phone, email, and/or mail.
*If there are extenuating circumstances, we do have some methods for flexible arrangements, but those are made on a case-by-case basis with the Volunteer Director, Program Director and Dreamer. Every volunteer should provide a safe, meaningful, and trustful relationship with the Dreamer
- To communicate with your Dreamer’s parents/guardian, get to know them, and get their support. To always ask permission of the parent/guardian to visit your Dreamer.
- To attend two or three mentor meetings with the program staff at your site per year. To fill out brief online mentor reports following each meeting with your Dreamer.
- To contact the Program Director (supervisor at the site where you Dreamer participates) if an issue arises that can be detrimental to the Dreamer and his or her family. To alert the Program Director of any special needs.
- To act as a positive role model providing guidance, support, and encouragement for your Dreamer. To encourage high academic standards and emotional growth. To be consistent, dependable and not make promises you cannot keep.
- To have fun!
