Help save this beautiful river!

The Executive Director of the Coalition for the Deschutes is looking for a great assistant who wants to help us save and restore the beautiful Deschutes River!

Work includes various admin functions, correspondence, data entry, coordinating the work of other volunteers, arranging meetings and the like. Plus you get to participate in fun and important Coalition events (talks, films, parties, river activities, etc.). You can also join us on hikes, outdoor work parties and other things we do to help the river...it's fun!

Knowledge of Word, Excel, Google Drive and the like are desired.

Hours (both times and amounts) are very flexible and some work may be done from home. We are happy to train if a person is willing to make a commitment to us.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Coalition for the Deschutes is to bring the wild back to our river so that fish, wildlife, and people can thrive forever. We are dedicated to saving and restoring Oregon's Deschutes River.

Description

Our role is to tell the story of the Deschutes, to provide the opportunity for people to learn about the river, and to advocate for it and be its voice at the decision-making table. Because we, all of us, are our river’s people.

In order to restore to Upper Deschutes River, we first have to deal with the river's water flow problems. Most of the river’s water is allocated to and used for irrigation. That’s where the water is going and the river is managed almost exclusively for that purpose. The Deschutes River has been referred to by one watershed scientist as the most beautiful irrigation ditch in the world.

We advocate for modern, collaborative approaches that will return the Deschutes to its full historic health and vitality while preserving recreation, irrigated agriculture and other vital uses.
