Tutor Coordinator* for ESL Program (Laubach Literacy Council of San Diego County, Inc.) will provide coordination, direction, and matching of site locations and maintain communications with volunteer ESL tutors and will work with center directors in doing so. Currently, we have 30+ learner sites in the County, 178 tutors. We have four training sessions of new tutors per year. Coordination includes retention, placement and some recruitment of tutors.
Duties include but not limited to: Matching certified tutors with a tutoring location and learners;
Meeting tutor expectations to available sites for tutoring; planning how and where to recruit tutors; reporting monthly demographics; ensuring all tutors have background checks; assisting the Board of Directors by attending Board meetings and reporting on volunteer tutor program; assisting the Director of Training as needed in managing applications for training and maintaining records for matching tutors with sites. Should be proficient in basic computer applications, have record keeping skills, knowledge of management principles or currently studying them in a college or university or job related experience, such as managing volunteer programs, ability to work with a diverse group of volunteers, and ability to work in an unstructured environment. We do not have offices. Our tutors work in a variety of sites (libraries, churches, community centers, etc.) Many duties can be handled via computer.

Description

Anyone with a working knowledge of English and a caring and patient attitude can become a Laubach tutor. Teaching experience is not necessary, nor do you need to know the student's native language. If you are willing to volunteer 2 or more hours per week and you can attend a tutor-training workshop to receive instruction in the Laubach method, you are on your way to becoming a tutor.
