Job Description:
This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to further their program development skills or expand their museum work experience. The Spellman Museum is looking for energetic, enthusiastic, can-do people to champion the museum into the future. This is a great volunteer opportunity that we hope will lead to a paid position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting volunteers through various techniques
  • Collecting information on skills, interests, and availability
  • Arranging for training - new volunteer, manning the front desk, and docent orientation
  • Schedule coverage and posting on internal calendar
Experience:
  • Proven experience in similar position preferred
  • Success in developing a volunteer program from scratch
  • Experience in volunteering locally and/or internationally
  • Experience in recruiting through various channels
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and Google Calendar
  • Able to communicate effectively with diverse people
  • Excellent organizational and team coordination abilities
  • A pleasant, professional and outgoing personality
  • Knowledge of philately a plus, but not necessary

Job Type:
A Part-time or Full-Time position. Currently this is an unfunded position, although we plan to offer some compensation in the future for the right fit. Successful candidate will have own transportation and speak English.

Revised by Trustees October 2015. Approved by Corporation April 2016.

Description

The Spellman Museum of Stamps & Postal History, located on the campus of Regis College in Weston, MA, is the oldest museum of its kind in the nation. The Spellman Museum is a center of learning for people of all ages. It preserves, enhances and expands its philatelic collections, library, and facilities and provides programs and activities as a philatelic trust for the lifelong education and inspiration of the general public. In addition, it promotes the hobby of stamp collecting, and is a resource to engage historians, the curious, and the researcher.

Stamps tell the story of the history of the Postal Service, and the story of society, cultures and identity through postage stamps. Our programs about the history of stamps and the postal system can be presented at public libraries, social clubs, senior centers, independent and assisted living facilities. And we have extraordinary exhibits and displays throughout the entire museum that illustrate our history and common connects through stamps. All children receive a free packet of stamps every visit.
