ORGANIZATION: JVS, Jewish Vocational Service

One of the students in JVS's Adult Diploma Program needs extra support writing a history research paper. She is a native Spanish speaker and has conversational English skills, but struggles with writing in English.
A volunteer who is fluent in English and Spanish can give the student the extra support she needs during or after class.

Volunteer must have strong writing skills. History knowledge is not required.
Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00-11:30am. Volunteer can work with student during class or after class, one or two days per week.

Program/Department Overview:

This program is a partnership with the Boston Public Schools (BPS) and enables adults to get a high school diploma rather than an equivalency. Classes in English, math, social studies, science, college and career readiness, and financial literacy follow a curriculum provided by BPS. The program assists students in obtaining the knowledge and skills needed to complete the BPS curriculum, obtain their high school diplomas and move into appropriate next steps such as college bridge programs, post-secondary education, skills training, employment, or promotions. Students tend to take anywhere from 15 months to three years to graduate.
