Reading Buddies
Grab a book and read with a buddy.

Connect with the crew at our Canal Winchester branch for an hour each week, and help guide young minds as they learn to read. Children read to you for 15 minutes, and your job is:

  • To help them when they need it
  • Challenge them when it sounds too easy, and
  • Guide them to new books and the fun of reading.

Research from Ohio State University shows that every Reading Buddies session improves children's scores on the reading tests.

If you want to share your great love of books and reading with a child, this is the place to be!

Days: Tuesday and Wednesday

Time: 4 to 5 p.m.

Description

Open to All since 1873, Columbus Metropolitan Library is well known for its signature services and programs like School Help, Reading Buddies, Summer Reading Challenge and Ready for Kindergarten. With its Main Library and 22 branches, CML responds to areas of urgent community need: kids unprepared for kindergarten, third grade reading proficiency, high school graduation, college and career readiness and employment resources.

CML was named a 2011 National Medal Winner by the Institute for Museum and Library Services for work in community service, the highest honor for libraries and museums. CML was also named 2010 Library of the Year by Library Journal.
