Empowering youth to live healthier lives!

Fit2beKids is a non-profit organization in South Orange County, CA that aims to transform youth by empowering them to live healthier-more wholesome lives. Our educational and field programs provide youth and their families the opportunity to learn about physical fitness, nutrition and mindfulness; our fundamental building blocks for character development and behavior change, which are performed through guided-discovery learning. The families we support come from diverse under-served ethnic backgrounds, who lack support and knowledge in health and wellness.

We are currently seeking volunteers to serve as YOUTH COACHES and MENTORS for youth, ages 3-18.

We are looking for volunteers who are:

  • High School/College Students needing community service hours
  • Adults who love working with kids--has had experience as a youth coach, teacher, camp counselor
  • Passionate about educating youth on physical fitness, nutrition and mindfulness
  • Enthusiastic and Energetic...someone who brings the FUN FACTOR!!
  • Dedicated to building relationships with our kiddos and serving as a COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR
  • Bi-Lingual (Spanish) is highly desired
  • Committed to volunteering for a minimum of 6 months, preferably 1-year (2-hour Saturday shifts; 2-times per month + occasional large events)
  • Willing to perform a full background check and pass
  • Able to attend a 1-hour Volunteer Orientation

Mission Statement

OUR VISION To empower at-risk youth to lead mentally-, physically- and emotionally-balanced lives, thereby enhancing their well-being as well as that of the community as a whole. OUR MISSION To fully educate at-risk youth and their families on physical fitness, nutrition and social/emotional character development through experience-based learning. OUR VALUES & CULTURE To create an experience-based learning environment that is built on trust, courage, respect and balance; where children can develop necessary social, emotional, cognitive and dexterous skills to empower themselves in leading a wholesome life.

Description

Fit to be Kids, Inc. (F2BK) is a 501(c)(3) community outreach organization that provides prevention, awareness and advocacy education about childhood obesity, and the health risks that accompany this disease, to at-risk youth and their families - empowering them to live healthier, wholesome lives while promoting physical activity, nutrition education and social/emotional character development through experience-based enrichment programs that ultimately impact the overall well-being of our communities.

This is the gist of what we’ve learned...
Childhood obesity is merely a symptom of systemic designs, typically due to poverty, which deters youth from the outdoors (physical activity) and access to nutrition (fresh fruits and vegetables). We have also learned that experience-based learning is much more effective in long-term behavior change.

.. and this is what we’re doing about it:
We have created an experience-based learning environment where children can develop necessary social, emotional, cognitive and dexterous skills through specific physical activities and nutrition education that will empower them in leading a balanced and wholesome life.
