We have volunteer opportunities in multiple locations across the state. Our main production center in Rockland needs 2 volunteers per day for a 4-hour shift each from September to January. This may involve drilling holes in struts, bundling cut sticks by order, assembling insert frames with screws and glue and/or wrapping inserts with tape, plastic and foam. All jobs involve simple skills that are taught when you arrive. No special experience necessary. Adults of any age welcome!
Volunteer measurers are needed spring, summer and fall to use a laser-measurer at community members' homes to measure their windows for custom-built inserts and enter that information into a computer. Training provided.
Frame assembly and/or insert wrapping volunteers are also needed at week-long Community Builds across the state of Maine. Food/ catering donations for our volunteers are always needed. Our 2018 Community Builds will be held in Bangor, Bath, Belfast, Berwick, Brooksville, Bridgton / Norway, Brunswick, Buxton / Gorham, Deer Isle, Dover-Foxcroft, Ellsworth, Fairfield, Falmouth, Islesboro, MDI, Peaks Island, Portland, Rockland, Searsport, Standish, Unity, Wells, Wiscasset and Vassalboro.
These Community Builds create insulating window inserts for local residents to reduce their fuel use, make their homes warmer and less drafty, and reduce CO2 emissions. No experience is needed. All skills are taught.

Mission Statement
WindowDressers is a volunteer-driven non-profit organization dedicated to helping Maine residents reduce heating costs, fuel consumption, and CO2 emissions by lowering the amount of heat lost through windows. WindowDressers achieves this goal by organizing community builds where citizens come together to construct insulating window inserts which reduce the need for heat during cold seasons. Customers of WindowDressers reduce their fuel consumption, on average, by 10%-20%, often leading to payback periods of less than a year. 22% of window inserts constructed are donated to low-income families who could not otherwise afford them. Many of these families choose to donate back to the program in order to help others in the community.
Description
Neighbors helping neighbors: Insulating window inserts are built at collaborative, fun community workshops. Our customers are our volunteers. Get insulating inserts at a fraction of the market price by joining one of our Community Builds.
Don't need inserts? Many community members volunteer at our Builds every year because they are driven by a concern for our environment and by social and economic justice concerns for our neighbors. Plus the builds are a fun way to co-create community.
