Bikes for Kids
Help a child pick their first bike!

Biking is at the heart of what makes Portland great. However, the cost of purchasing a bicycle is a major obstacle for many families living in underserved communities. Our annual Holiday Bike Drive provides children with a safe refurbished bicycle, new helmets, and basic safety education.

Each year, we hear/see around 20-25 different languages spoken at the Holiday Bike Drive. The most common languages are the following: Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese, Arabic, Nepali, Swahili, Vietnamese, ASL, and Somali. We are looking for experienced volunteers to translate key event materials, like our safety brochure for parents.

This opportunity can be performed remotely or in person. Please reply with your qualifications and experience. If you're local to Portland, consider signing up as an interpreter for the event on Sunday, December 3rd to help children pick out their very own bicycle!

Mission Statement

The Community Cycling Center, founded in 1994, broadens access to bicycling and its benefits through our hands-on programs, volunteer projects, and neighborhood bike shop. We believe bicycles are a tool for empowerment and a vehicle for change.

Description

The Community Cycling Center, founded in 1994, helps broaden access to bicycling and its benefits through our hands-on programs, volunteer projects, and neighborhood bike shop. Our Commitment to the Community:

Bicycles are a vehicle for change. All year long, we strengthen our community and protect our environment by making used bikes accessible to people of all ages, abilities, and incomes. Our earn-a-bike programs help low-income youth and adults become self-sufficient, healthy, and safe.

Bicycles should be accessible to everyone. Our professional retail bike shop sells refurbished bicycles at a range of reasonable prices and offers a full menu of services.

It takes a community to do what we do. Bicycles and parts are donated from individuals, institutions and supporting businesses. Churches, businesses, schools, and neighborhood groups hold bike collections to help collect bikes. Volunteers help us recycle, fix up program bikes, and coordinate events
