Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the 17th annual Lake Harriet Kite Festival. With your help, participants will have a safe, fun and enjoyable day of kite flying and outdoor winter activities. To register for any of the opportunities below, please contact Erica Chua via email (echua@minneapolisparks.org) or phone at 612-230-6479. Please also be sure to indicate your name, position you are interested in and day of event phone number. We look forward to seeing you at the event!

Event Site Volunteer Positions

Event Set-up
Positions Available: 3. Shift time: 10 AM-12:00 PM
Volunteers will assist with setting up tents, banners, tables and supplies in preparation for the event. Volunteers must be 16 or older and be able to lift 30lbs. Please dress for the weather and bring work gloves if you have them.

Ice Fishing Volunteer
Positions Available: 1 (per shift). Shift time: 12 PM -2 PM and 2 PM-4 PM
Help participants enjoy ice fishing, helping to bait hooks, warn participants of pre-drilled holes and sharing tips and trips. General knowledge of ice fishing and Lake Harriet area required (for providing fishing assistance).

Snowshoe Volunteer
Positions Available: 2 (per shift). Shift time: 12 PM-2 PM and 2 PM-4 PM
Help participants get fitted for snow shoes, warn participants of pre-drilled ice fishing holes. General knowledge of snow shoeing a plus (for providing assistance with fitting).

Parking Attendant
Positions Available: 2 (per shift). Shift time: 12 PM -2PM and 2PM-4PM
Volunteers will assist with traffic flow and drop-off in the Lake Harriet parking lots and will direct participants to the check-in and kite sales area. This position also acts as the Welcome Committee to the event so friendly and outgoing personalities are encouraged.

Firepits
Positions Available: 2 (per shift). Shift time: 12 PM -2 PM and 2 PM-4 PM
Volunteers will assist with roasting marshmallows and ensure safety around the fire.

Horse and Wagon Rides
Positions Available: 2 (per shift). Shift time: 12 PM -2 PM and 2 PM-4 PM
Volunteers will assist with loading and unloading of the wagon, attend to the line and assist with barricades.

Kite Festival Information Booth
Positions Available: 1 (per shift). Shift time: 12 PM -2 PM and 2 PM-4 PM
Volunteers will staff the information booth, answer questions and direct participants to desired areas. General knowledge of event offerings and Lake Harriet area a plus (for giving out directions).

Go To Crew
Positions Available: 2 (per shift). Shift time: 10AM-12 PM and 12 PM-2 PM
Be part of our crew of fabulous volunteers who are able to fill in the gaps and help us out in a pinch. This crew will stay at Lake Harriet and will assist in a variety of capacities. Perfect for those people who like spontaneity and excitement.

Event Breakdown
Positions Available: 4. Shift time: 4 PM -6 PM
Volunteers will assist with breaking down tents, taking down banners and signage and collecting tables, chairs and barricades for pickup. Volunteers must be able to lift 30lbs
