San Diego Audubon

Join San Diego Audubon and the Port of San Diego as we restore coastal strand habitat at Emory Cove in South San Diego Bay on Saturday, November 4th from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm! Emory Cove provides important upland habitat for shorebirds and we've been working to restore this habitat with the help of volunteers like you.

We'll be focusing on planting so come prepared in closed-toed shoes and long pants. We will also be providing water, sunscreen and snacks, but remember to bring a reusable water bottle and rain/sun protection.

Directions to Emory Cove

From the 5-South: get on 75-South for the San Diego/Coronado Bridge. Follow the 75 over the Coronado Bridge before turning left on 4th Street. Turn left at the 1st cross street onto 4th Street. Turn right onto Pomona Ave. At the traffic circle, take the third exit to stay on Pomona Ave. Turn right on Glorietta Blvd. Turn left to stay on Glorietta Blvd. Turn left at the 1st cross street onto Orange Ave. Continue onto Silver Strand Blvd. After 2.4 miles, make a U-turn. The main parking lot will be on your left-hand side, and the work site will be a 5-minute walk north of this, following the bike path. Look for the check-in table on your right side. Please note to be very careful while using this path, as bicyclists do go very fast.

Parking

There is limited parking available in the small turnout lot at Emory Cove. On the days of Emory Cove events, there will also be parking in the housing development, known as the Cays, just to the north of Emory Cove. More information about parking will be provided via email closer to the day of the event.

To RSVP and for more details, please contact Megan Flaherty, our Restoration Program Manager, at flaherty@sandiegoaudubon.org or (858) 273-7800 X 106.

Mission Statement

Together we defend our region's birds, unique biodiversity, and threatened habitats through advocacy, education, and restoration. We envision a region in which people and nature are interconnected and thriving, where diverse communities find common ground to prioritize and respond to the climate crisis and other urgent threats to birds and the natural world, and give shape to an enduring culture of conservation and sustainability.

Description

San Diego Audubon Society (SDAS) is a chapter of the National Audubon Society, an organization founded in 1905 to stop the slaughter of wild birds for their feathers. Originally founded in 1948, SDAS has served the region for over 70 years. We serve a diverse population, with community-based habitat restoration projects, environmental education programs, and recreational offerings in North County, Metro, East County, and South Bay communities. Programs include conservation, education, recreation, and sanctuary operations. SDAS leads the way in fostering knowledge and appreciation of the natural world and seeks to become an even more significant resource for our communities through our education, environmental recreation, and numerous conservation programs.
