Pickles for our Food Bank

Why Good Cheer? Good Cheer has been working hard since 1962 to help the community of South Whidbey Island; starting out as an aid to community members experiencing financial insecurities to lead up to all it does today hosting a food bank to aid in individuals and families experiencing food insecurities. Our team of dedicated volunteers and staff are a great group of people if you need a network of positivity in your life. Join the team and volunteer as you see fit!

Volunteer roles include: sorting, bagging, and processing produce as needed, repacking bulk goods, stocking, check in, and check out of our shopping model Food Bank, the on call list, cleaning and organizing the kitchen, sorting and pricing items for our thrift store distribution center. In the summer season we have volunteer opportunities with our fruit and produce gleaning program which includes different scheduled fruit harvests or gleaning at the Bayview Farmer's Market Saturdays from May-Oct. Garden volunteer opportunities are available every Wednesday from 9-4 May-Oct.

Mission Statement

Good Cheer is committed to creating a hunger-free community on South Whidbey. We will: Fund and manage an accessible Food Bank. Operate and promote successful Thrift Stores. Involve the community as volunteers, donors, and recipients. Educate and encourage good nutrition through effective food preparation, gardening, and a variety of classes.

Description

Good Cheer has been feeding the hungry on South Whidbey through the Food Bank since 1962. We seek to ensure that our Thrift Stores are a favorite shopping destination because they provide the majority of the funding to operate the Food Bank. With these funds our Food Bank is able to provide for an extremely productive Food Bank Farm that provides fresh food directly to our clients. With the use of processing techniques provided by our produce manager we are able to freeze the excess produce we have and provide healthy food to our clients throughout the winter. That being said none of this would be possible without our amazing partners, community members, and most importantly volunteers that we are constantly in need of to keep the wheels of this machine turning. Thank you for your time, and we hope you join our forces to help fight hunger on the south end of Whidbey Island.
