East Side Learning Center (ESLC) unlocks the potential of each child through the foundation of reading by providing one-on-one literacy tutoring to children at no cost to families that are unable to get help elsewhere. Children receive tutoring Monday through Thursday for 30 to 45 minutes during or after school with caring adults. Our program goals are to be a major force in ensuring that all children have the opportunity to with pride and joy by 3rd grade, to empower children to be successful in school and society, and to assist parents in helping their children become the best readers possible.
The Volunteer Coordinator Intern will:
- Implement and further develop strategies that recruit, train, and schedule volunteer tutors
- Maintain and expand existing partnerships with universities, schools, corporations, and various other community organizations to meet the need of ESLC
- Collaborate with staff to ensure the ongoing development, appreciation and support of volunteers
To apply, please email volunteer@eslcmn.org or call 612-930-3818

Mission Statement
"Unlocking each child's potential through the foundation of reading."
Description
East Side Learning Center (ESLC) strives to be a major force in "unlocking each child’s potential through the foundation of reading." ESLC does this by providing year-round, personalized, one-on-one reading tutoring at no cost to families for nearly 350 St. Paul children (K-3) who read below grade level and do not have the resources to get help elsewhere. The students we serve reflect the vast economic and culturally diversity on the east side of St. Paul with most of our children coming from families that live at or below the poverty line and do not speak English as their first language. ESLC was founded in 2001 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in response to a request by the civic leaders of St. Paul to form an educational partnership. Our vision is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to read at grade level by the 4th grade.
