About

Do you have a passion for helping others? Be an ambassador to a newly arrived refugee family or individual. Help them learn English and teach them about life in America. Be creative and engage in activities that teach, such as how to use household items, how to grocery shop, utilizing community resources, helping kids with homework or just getting familiar with Lincoln.

Contact with a refugee family or individual is set up between the mentor and client on a weekly basis. The position may include transportation if the volunteer feels comfortable and is authorized.

Interested volunteers will be invited to attend an Information Session that is held on the third Thursday of each month from 6-7 PM at our office at 2301 O St.

Mentor orientation will be provided on the fourth Thursday of the month from 6-8 PM to train mentor volunteers prior to working with their families. This will also occur at our office at 2301 O St.

Requirements: All volunteers much pass a criminal background check. They must also provide a copy of a valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance for a DMV check, if applicable.

This position is looking for volunteers available any day of the week, on a weekly basis and requires a 3-6 month commitment.
