Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas’ Citizenship Education Program offers two levels of Civics and Literacy classes, as well as an Interview Preparation course to refugees in the Kansas City Area who are eligible to apply for the Naturalization process. The center is located at CCNEK Central Office in Wyandotte County (Kansas City, KS). The purpose of the Citizenship Education Program is to enable refugees to easily access Civics and Literacy instruction relevant to the Naturalization process and Citizenship Interview test. This volunteer position will focus primarily on leading one-on-one and small group tutoring groups, and providing general classroom support to staff members as well as working directly with refugees

  • Assist Citizenship Program Manager with assessment testing
  • Receive training and teach civics and literacy with provided lesson plans and activities
  • Lead one-on-on and small group tutoring lessons during class times (potential opportunity for one-on-one tutoring outside of regularly scheduled class times)
  • Assist Citizenship Program Manager with collecting and filing student work
  • Receive training to act as a mock interviewer for Citizenship interview preparation
