The Reception and Placement program provides services for the first 90 days that a refugee is in the United States. This begins with airport arrival and includes securing housing, applying for social security cards, health screenings and immunizations, school enrollment for children, and other appointments. Volunteer will assist R&P case managers with transportation for newly-arrived families.
Appointment Driving Volunteers
- Pick up and take clients to routine appointments such as immunizations, social security, and DCF meetings.
- Be prepared to wait the length of time necessary for the appointment.
- Drop off clients at their next destination or their home.
Shopping Buddies
- Take clients for initial grocery store visits and/or to TurnStyles thrift store to select clothing.
- Answer questions about products and shopping in America as needed.
- Assist clients with R&P TurnStyles vouchers.
