Inspiring Minds’ mission is to create successful students by providing them with the appropriate academic and social supports. We connect trained and supported volunteers to struggling Providence students to develop close connections through which young people discover who they are, gain skills to shape their own lives and learn how to interact and contribute to the world around them.
Volunteers are matched with students in small groups to develop a trusting relationship and to engage in structured activities, often around classroom or homework-related topics.
Volunteers work a minimum of one hour per week with students grades PreK-12. We prioritize placements of volunteer tutor/mentors in grades K-3.

Description
Inspiring Minds is an antiracist organization committed to closing equity gaps based on race, ethnicity, first language, and economic status that impact RI students and families. The organization was founded as Lippitt Hill Tutorial in1963 to provide academic support for children in two segregated elementary schools. Since then, the organization has grown into a citywide service and, in 1988, became Volunteers in Providence Schools to reflect its citywide approach to addressing academic inequities. Finally, the name Inspiring Minds was adopted in 2008 as the programs and scope of work expanded beyond Providence City's borders. Join us as we aim for programming in schools across the state!
