A.C. Brotherhood Council - ACBC is an independent food shelf (non-government) organization established to serve all persons in need in Andover, Anoka, Coon Rapids, Nowthen and Ramsey. ACBC has a variety of positions available that work with your schedule. Volunteers may choose to serve monthly, bi-weekly, or weekly.
Here are a few of the ways volunteers can support ACBC's mission:
Rescue and Delivery Drivers support ACBC twice a month on Tuesdays, to rescue food from local grocery stores. The food is then given away at the food shelf. Delivery drivers are also needed to bring food to home bound seniors (35 pound box of food). If you are unable to drive or deliver, consider helping in other ways at the food shelf listed below.
Clothes Sorter who would sorts clothing items, puts them on hangers and racks for guests. Volunteers choose whether to serve on Mondays or Wednesdays from 9:00-11:00 AM.
Shelve Stockers restock empty shelves. Shifts are available on Monday and Wednesday mornings or Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Volunteers choose how often they would like to serve and which shift works well with your schedule.
Store Crew volunteers assist guests throughout the clothing closet and food shelf and finalize their shopping experience by weighing and bagging items.
Food Sorter/Code Readers have an important role in keeping the food shelf going. Volunteers read food codes on donated items, follow food code guidelines to determine which food items are within useable dates, separate outdated from useable etc. On site training is required as task requires interpretation of codes; skills acquired through consistent volunteering. Volunteers would enjoy details and would be able to commit to serving regularly. Shifts are available on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 12-3 PM or Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 PM.
