Position Summary: An Outreach Volunteer would attend community events and tabling opportunities on behalf of Saturday Academy. Event time and places vary, volunteer is responsible for their own transportation to events. Outreach Volunteers would visit local establishments to deliver outreach materials, volunteer is responsible for own transportation to and from the location. Outreach volunteers may be asked to take on administrative tasks directly related to outreach.
Responsibilities:
- Promote and market Saturday Academy to event attendees
- Pass out marketing materials to event attendees
- If applicable, help facilitate small activity for kids
- Aid in set-up and take-down
Qualifications:
- Effective communication skills
- Refined active listening skills
- Comfortable speaking to people and or crowds
- A positive attitude
- Access to working transportation and has valid licensing

Saturday Academy strives to engage all motivated young people, including those from under-represented communities, in hands-on, in-depth learning by connecting them to community experts as educators and mentors.
Description
The mission of Saturday Academy is to engage children through in-depth learning so they may become life-long learners. We provide hands-on classes and camps, afterschool programs, accelerated learning programs for talented and gifted students, and a high school apprenticeship program in science and engineering (ASE). Since it was founded in 1983, SA has served over 165,000 students and currently serves approximately 6,000 students each year. SA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization affiliated with the University of Portland (UP). Instructors need to be experts in their fields so that children see adults as guides to learning and careers.
