About Jovenes, Inc.: Founded in 1989 by Father Richard Estrada, Jovenes, Inc. helps homeless youth ,ages 18-25, leave homelessness behind. A home and family for those without, Jovenes provides an innovative program of stable housing options, compassionate care, life skills training, and employment support to young adults seeking a path to life change. Our mission is to help homeless and at-risk youth become productive an integrated members of our community. Jovenes goes deep with each youth we serve, focusing on housing stability, education & employment, access to healthcare & benefits, and recovery from childhood trauma. We empower those we serve so they can develop healthy relationships and make meaningful contributions to the community we share.

Title: Communications Volunteer

Purpose and Impact: The Communications Volunteer will assist the Development Department in executing Jovenes’ Holiday Giving Campaign which will focus on capital support of the construction of a small college dorm for homeless community college students. This individual will do this by creating compelling news releases and content across a variety of platforms that promotes the campaign, construction project and showcases the community and togetherness Jovenes, Inc. is creating to end youth homelessness specifically on our community college campuses.

The volunteer will work closely with the entire Development team to create, organize, and execute content during the campaign, as well as assist in documentation and promotion of the project.

Activities, Tasks and Responsibilities:

-Work alongside the Development Team to research, write, and pitch stories for articles and publication

-Promote the campaign and events to the public through news sources, bloggers, social media and other influencers

-Strategically create content to promote Jovenes' participation in the "Clipper's Challenge" crowdrise campaign

-Track and document media coverage on a daily basis

-Create and distribute pitches, one sheets, and press releases

-Brainstorm and strategize content for future press releases and content

-Research blogs, websites, social media connections and new sources

-Attend events related to the giving campaign

Our ideal volunteer will bring: strong writing skills; attention to detail; a passion for content creation; extensive experience and interest in PR, marketing and/or journalism; strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor; experience using social media such as Facebook, Twitter & Instagram; access to your own computer equipment.

Duration: ASAP-December 31 st

Time Commitment: This position will require a 5-15 hours per a week commitment.

Site and Supervision: This volunteer will be supervised by the Development Department located on 1208 Pleasant Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90033.
