MoveFwd was originally named Teens Alone. It was founded in 1990 as the brainchild of local high school social workers who were concerned about increases in the numbers of teens who had nowhere to sleep at night or who needed counseling beyond what the school could provide. Local schools, police and concerned citizens put their heads together to establish Teens Alone.
MoveFwd now offers counseling to teens in 18 different middle and high schools in four west suburban districts. After years of advocacy for suburban needs, 2014 was a breakthrough year as MoveFwd began directly providing transitional housing and drop-in center services for suburban homeless youth. Both programs are growing to meet pent-up community need.
