Mission Statement

Westgate Charities aims to educate, empower, and encourage children whose parents suffer from mental illness through educational workshops and financial assistance to ensure the continuity of their education from K-16

Description

The informed response to a mental health crisis is vital to the care of parents and the safety of children. The current gap between those in need and knowledge of the available resource is a critical variable that affects the entire family. Westgate Charities aims to bridge this gap by serving as a conduit of information, across multiple media platforms, between service providers and those in need.

The children of parents with mental illness have special needs that are not adequately addressed by the available wraparound services. Currently there are no facilities that provide year-round support or counseling specifically for children coping with the struggles of parental mental illness in the state of Tennessee. Westgate Charities aims to establish supporting resources in each county in the state of Tennessee by the year 2020.

Parents, that normally assume the responsibilities to ensure the continued education of their children, are unable to meet these demands during a mental health crisis. As a result, the child’s education may suffer in multiple areas which include attendance, performance and financial support. Westgate Charities aims to generate funds to support the continuity of education for children affected by parental mental illness.
