Volunteer in an Advanced Writing ESOL class for advanced level English speakers who are employees of Boloco. Provide general classroom support to the teacher, which will likely include working with smalls groups or assisting students to stay on track during class. The class is sometimes held in a computer classroom at JVS, and, with guidance from the instructor, the volunteer will support students with improving computer and English skills during those particular classes. Orientation will be provided.
Class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00pm-6:00pm. Volunteers are requested to volunteer one shift a week.
Program/Department Overview:
JVS works with employers to develop and customize training and education services for their employees at their location. Based on the employers’ business and workforce development goals, JVS will provide: English language classes (for non-native speakers), adult basic education, pre-college classes, customer service training, effective communication classes, supervisory training, computer classes, and medical terminology classes. Employer partners include CVS, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, Legal Sea Foods, Hebrew Senior Life, Partners Healthcare, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Mass General Hospital, and many more.

Each year, JVS empowers more than 21,000 individuals through more than 36 services that guide clients on a pathway to meaningful employment; some of which include educational testing, skills training, English for Speakers of Other Languages, job search training, career counseling, Adult Basic Literacy and Adult Diploma Program instruction, citizenship education and financial literacy.
