Avenidas is looking for volunteers to serve as friendly visitors, providing weekly visits to seniors in Palo Alto and surrounding communities along the peninsula.

Friendly visitors are expected to provide regular, social support to isolated seniors to help them remain connected to the community. Through regularly scheduled visits, the volunteers will develop a respectful, friendly and caring relationship.

As a volunteer, you would not be expected to drive, do household tasks, personal care or financial management.

Once matched, you would coordinate a weekly visiting schedule with the senior, maintain confidentiality about your visits, notify the senior if you are unable to come and report hours to the Avenidas Volunteer Manager. Any concerns about the client's safety and well-being would need to be reported to the Avenidas social worker.

An application, background check, fingerprinting and interview are all requirements for volunteering with this program. Orientation and training would be provided by Avenidas staff after being accepted as a volunteer.
