If you love your career and would like to share your career path with high school students, we would like for you to consider being a Career Explorer.
A Career Explorer serves on a panel of 6 people, all selected because you are community leaders and have a specific RIA-SEC interest assessment. You have five minutes to tell your story, starting with who you were in high school, the education path you chose, the barriers your faced, how you conquered the barriers, where you are today and where you would like to be in 10 years.
Following the 30-minutes of panel presentations, the students, who have also taken the interest assessment, ask questions for the remainder of the 50-minute class period. If the questions take more than the class period, you will have homework, answer student questions and email the teacher the answers.
You may have one class, but probably no more than four classes.
We will share with you our Career Explorer Guide and invite you to participate in half an hour webinar to answer any questions that you might have about this activity.
Then you volunteer and serve based on your availability.
If interested, please email me at nibal@financialmentors.org

Mission Statement
To preserve the American Dream by providing outcome driven, blended online, 1 year, Texas Education Agency approved high school CTE/Math credit course on financial education, career discovery, postsecondary education and reality based math. The course, Real Life Financial Math, engages the community to help students gain skills and knowledge to seek challenging goals and opportunities for the future.
Description
Think about the one course you wished you had in high school. The odds are good that it would have provided you real world financial information - how to find a job, pay for college, file taxes, budget, manage debt, set goals and save for your future.
Since 2006, the leaders of FMA have engaged 1,200 Houston area teens in a program with award winning outcomes. Starting in 2012, they developed an outcome based blended online course to prepare students for the future. The course, Real Life Financial Math, will be available in Texas high schools starting September 2017, if the public asks for it. We need community engagement to bring this course to your district.Your responsibility could be simple - call the superintendent of your local school district and ask if the district will offer Real Life Financial Math, the only TEA approved financial math course, that also comes with 35% more CTE funding. If they need more info, we will provide it.
