Hospice Volunteering is a rewarding opportunity for people who want to make a positive difference in the life of others in need. Our Volunteers are an important part of our team and provide vital services that decrease anxiety, stress, and loneliness. Our patients reside in Nursing Facilities and Private Homes throughout Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem counties.
Music Volunteers visit once a week to play music and/or sing for their assigned patients. Songs that resonate with our patients were popular hits from their teen and adult years. Artists include Frank Sinatra, The Beetles, Elvis, Dean Martin, and standard songs such as Somewhere Over the Rainbow, You Are My Sunshine, That's Amore, and Take Me Out to the Ballgame. Instruments and equipment need to be portable to be played at the bedside. Volunteers are not required to be Music Therapists, only have a talent to play and/or sing.
The process to come onboard begins with a phone interview, followed by an in-person interview. Volunteers are required to complete a background check, medical checks, complete end-of-life training, and be willing to make a minimum of a year commitment.
