The Family Sponsorship Program, coordinated by Ramsey County Volunteer Services, matches community sponsors with families in need. Our Social Work staff identify and refer families who need extra help during the holiday season. Volunteer Services then matches the identified families with sponsors make a commitment to provide food and gifts for the family’s holiday celebration.
Sponsors make a commitment to provide their family with at least:
* 1 clothing item per child
* 1 toy item per child
* 1 parent gift
* 1 grocery gift certificate
Gifts are to be wrapped and labeled for specific family members. Sponsors are provided information about their family, such as the ages of children, clothing sizes and gift suggestions.
The referring Social Worker collects the gifts from the sponsor and delivers them directly to the receiving family.
The cost of your sponsorship is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. Donation receipts for tax purposes are provided upon request.
We recommend a budget of $30 to $50 per person in the receiving family, as well as $15 per family member for the grocery gift certificate.
Holiday Program COVID-19 Response
In consideration of the pandemic, the following safety measures must be practiced to make this year’s program successful and healthy for all.
- While shopping, wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a mask when around others.
- Maintain good social distance (about 6 feet).
- Practice contactless delivery of gifts of gifts to the social worker. If you assist the social worker to load the gifts into their vehicle, avoid close contact by taking turns. When finished, wash your hands with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
