Mission Statement

Promoting, through education, the socio-economic development of San Mateo Ixtatan, Guatemala

Description

The Ixtatán Foundation was formed to promote socio-economic development of San Mateo Ixtatán through greater access to education. Education is the key to sustainable development and poverty reduction because it empowers students to become leaders and advocates in their community.

The Asociación INHAT generates and runs the Seeds of Knowledge (Yinhatil Nab'en) High School and other community-based projects; including an organic farm, a computer academy, a community water filter project, and a brick-making project. The Ixtatán Foundation initiated these projects and oversees their progress. As the work progresses and there are more local people to see that it carries on, the Ixtatán Foundation will gradually withdraw its financial support of the Asociación INHAT.
